‘Our Shared Sacrifice: The Briefs’
Documentary Vignette Series
Our Shared Sacrifice: The Briefs is the documentary vignette series of Our Shared Sacrifice, a youth-led Canadian public history project recovering underrepresented soldiers who served in and alongside the Canadian Expeditionary Force during the First World War.
The series comprises a 20-minute documentary and several two-minute vignettes — available in English and French — profiling individual soldiers and key actions, including Pte. Hasan Amat (1st Battalion, Western Ontario Regiment, CEF, killed at Hill 70), Sgt. Frederick Hobson VC, L/Cpl. Frederick Fisher VC, Sepoy Khudadad Khan VC, Lt. Frank de Pass VC, and the Battles of Neuve Chapelle and Hill 70. The research is grounded in primary sources at Library and Archives Canada and counterpart imperial archives; AI illustration is used to render figures and moments for which no primary-source photography exists.
Created by Daniyal and Harris Elahi, Royal Canadian Army Cadets at 337 Queen’s York Rangers (Toronto), the series is built for broadcast, classroom, and commemorative use. Bilingual delivery extends remembrance to French-speaking and younger audiences not typically reached by long-form print history.
