Poetry VLogs
It has become more evident to us that Veterans choose to tell their stories via various creative modalities as part of their healing journey. For those that served, poetry continues to be an expression of dedication, sacrifice and heart-space.
At 97 years young, Frank ‘Tex’ Davis has inspired us to inspire others by showcasing poetry by Veterans. The Veterans Channel is honored to facilitate his dream of sharing his poem and expression of love for country.
As a young rifleman, Tex wrote his poem “MY OH CANADA” in 1942 while deployed. He quotes the song that was played at both the dedications of the Vimy Monument in France and National War Memorial in Ottawa. Oh Canada would not be adopted as Canada’s official anthem until 1967. Frank served with Halifax Rifles and 13th Brigade Pacific Force from 1942 to 1945. He Re-joined CAF with Signal Corps as a dispatch rider in the 1950’s and retired 1967.
This Poetry Vlog is brought to you by ‘Chosen Soldier Project’ and its ‘Messages from Home’ Program. The generous support of sponsors enables Veterans Media to serve those that served for us. Thank you Chosen Soldier Project for choosing The Veterans Channel to tell these stories.
We invite veterans from around the world, of all age demographics and branches of service, to share their poetry with their fellow veterans globally. Please email veteransmedia@yahoo.com if you have a poem you would like to share.
