Our Shared Sacrifice: The Battle of Neuve Chapelle
The Battle of Neuve Chapelle, fought in March 1915, marked Canada’s first major engagement on the Western Front during the First World War. Canadian troops of the Canadian Expeditionary Force fought alongside British and Indian forces in a coordinated assault against German positions in northern France. The battle demonstrated the growing role of the Canadian Army in the war and foreshadowed the larger operations that would follow at Vimy Ridge and elsewhere. This short film recreates the battle using historical research and AI-assisted visualization as part of the Our Shared Sacrifice project, which explores the intertwined wartime histories of Canada and the soldiers of the British Empire.
