Synopsis

Beyond the Fight is a character-driven science-fiction drama exploring the fragile boundary between healing and control. Through Marcus, an Iraq War veteran navigating an increasingly mechanized system of care, the story examines the cost of erasing pain when that pain is inseparable from identity, memory, and love.

Created and produced by U.S. Army veteran Advin Illa, the completed short serves as a proof of concept for a proposed feature film or episodic adaptation. The expansion would deepen Marcus’s emotional arc, develop the world surrounding him, and explore the personal consequences of a system that measures recovery through compliance.

Producer's Vision

"My experience as a combat photographer and videographer in Iraq shaped how I see people, conflict, and the stories we carry home. With Beyond the Fight, I want to bring audiences close to the person behind the military experience—the relationships, contradictions, and desire to feel connected again.

The ambition is to build a compelling science-fiction story with emotional truth at its center, while creating meaningful opportunities for veterans in front of and behind the camera." — Advin Illa, Creator & Producer

Development Objectives

The next phase will focus on selecting the long-form format, developing the screenplay or pilot, attaching key creative talent, and establishing the production budget and financing strategy.

The production's goal is to assemble an all-veteran cast and crew, bringing lived experience and professional craft to every stage of the filmmaking process.
