About this film
Our Shared History and Sacrifice: The Legacy of Canada, Pakistan & India in the First World War examines the intertwined wartime experiences of Canada and soldiers of the British Indian Army, from present-day Pakistan and India, whose contributions on the Western Front have been historically underrepresented.
Daniyal and Harris Elahi contributed to the documentary, which emerged directly from research they participated in on Canadian and British Indian Army service in the First World War. The film was produced by Mario Madau and distributed through The Veterans Channel.
The documentary preceded the founding of ‘Our Shared Sacrifice: The Briefs,’ the independent youth-led Canadian public history initiative founded by Daniyal and Harris Elahi in late 2025.
