My Oh Canada
At 97 years young, Frank ‘Tex’ Davis inspired us to inspire others by showcasing veteran poems. The Veterans Channel is honored to facilitate his dream of sharing his poem and expression of love for country.
As a young rifleman, Tex wrote his poem “MY OH CANADA” in 1942 while deployed. He quotes the song that was played at both the dedications of the Vimy Monument in France and National War Memorial in Ottawa. Oh Canada would not be adopted as Canada’s official anthem until 1967. Frank served with Halifax Rifles and 13th Brigade Pacific Force from 1942 to 1945. He Re-joined CAF with Signal Corps as a dispatch rider in the 1950’s and retired 1967.
